Statis Pro Baseball was first published by Avalon Hill in 1978. Every year through 1992 Avalon Hill created updated player cards for every major league team. Most of the versions of Statis Pro Baseball contained the card creation formulas in their instructions, allowing customers to create their own player cards every season.
Statis Pro Baseball uses a base-8 system. In a base-8 system numbers range from 11-88 with no 9s or 0s. For example, 11-18, 21-28, 31-38, 41-48, 51-58, 61-68, 71-78, and 81-88 for a total of 64 different numbers. Instead of dice Statis Pro Baseball uses Fast Action Cards (FAC). There are people out there that have since transformed the game from using FAC to using dice.
One of the things that made Statis Pro Baseball so great was its ease and quickness of play. The game had an overall great flow to it. You could normally play an entire 9 inning game within 30 minutes. There are plenty of other successful baseball sim board games out there. Such as, APBA, Strat-O-Matic, and more. They are all very good games but none can match the flow and quickness of Statis Pro Baseball. |
